Advice from Ron Shaich, Founder and co-CEO, Panera:

1)  Look beyond shareholder value as its a narrow definition of success and is actually dysfunctional.  Profit and stock price are not things I can make.  They’re a by product of delivering for all my constituents.

2)  It’s ok to think small:  The idea that you have to have a broad strategy is not always right.  See opportunities to make a difference, and that will bring new things down the road.

3)  Don’t obsess over numbers:  What drives the P & L is getting stuff done right – the key initiatives.  That’s where I focus most of my time.
